Crown Resorts, one of Australia’s largest gaming establishments, is investigating a potential data breach after being contacted by a group of hackers. The group claimed to have obtained sensitive information about the company’s operations and customers.

Crown Resorts, which operates several wagering venues in Australia, including the flagship Crown Melbourne and Crown Sydney, has launched an investigation into a potential data breach. The company was contacted by hackers claiming access to confidential data about Crown’s operations and customers.

It has been reported that Crown Resorts received an email from the hackers demanding a ransom in exchange for not releasing the stolen data. The email included a sample of the hacked information as evidence of the breach.

Crown Resorts has not confirmed the breach or the authenticity of the stolen data but has stated that it is taking the threat seriously and has engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate the matter.

In a statement, Crown Resorts said, “Crown is one of many organisations who use the third-party file transfer service, GoAnywhere, which has been impacted by a data breach globally.”

“We were recently contacted by a ransomware group who claim they have illegally obtained a limited number of Crown files.

“We are investigating the validity of this claim as a matter of priority.”

The investigation into the potential data breach at Crown Resorts is ongoing, and it is unclear at this stage whether any customer data has been compromised. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity and the need for companies to take all necessary measures to protect sensitive information.

Victoria Police are conducting an ongoing investigation following a report of the cyber attack on a Melbourne-based gaming and entertainment group. The police have refrained from providing further details as the investigation continues.

“As the investigation is ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time,” it said.
