Okta has recently released its second annual State of Secure Identity Report findings indicating that malicious actors are increasingly finding ways to exploit digital identities, with a sharp rise in fraudulent registrations across the APAC region.

This report presents trends, anecdotes, and real-world insights from the billions of identity assaults at different authentication touchpoints, all based on data collected globally by Okta Customer Identity Cloud, powered by Auth0.

“Digital transformation will continue to be high on the priority list for many organisations, and a reliable CIAM could help businesses combat account takeover to protect consumers and businesses while boosting seamless consumer experience,” Ben Goodman, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan, Okta, said. “The first step towards implementing CIAM securely is to understand why and how adversaries are attacking these customer-oriented businesses.”

To ensure organisations are as secure as possible from identity-related attacks, Okta recommends investing in technologies such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), single sign-on solutions, modern access management policies and procedures, and continuous user access monitoring.

The report highlights the need for organisations in the region to have enhanced security protocols and procedures in place to protect their customer accounts from cyberattacks.

“Trust between customers and organisations is sacred and hard-earned. Therefore it is crucial to make identity security a board-level issue. Placing identity security at the core of your business will allow your workers to focus on innovation, collaboration, and productivity while reducing overall identity-related risk,” Mr Goodman said.

Furthermore, the report also highlights that organisations should move towards implementing a CIAM solution that utilises biometrics and behavioural analytics, which can provide an additional layer of security and reduce the risk of compromised credentials.

With more organisations moving to the cloud and increasing cyber threats, they must take steps to ensure secure identity management and other security measures.
