The Australian Lithuanian Cyber Research Network (ALCRN) launched the Australian Lithuanian Hybrid Threat Centre. It aims to protect organisations and individuals from emerging hybrid threats such as asymmetric warfare, cybercrime and terrorism.

The Australian Lithuanian Cyber Research Network (ALCRN) initiative from RMIT University strives to connect cybersecurity researchers, students, industry, and government practitioners from Australia and Lithuania.

The ALCRN was designed to help strengthen the ties between the two countries to protect organisations and individuals from emerging hybrid threats. This includes asymmetric warfare, cybercrime and terrorism. These are threat vectors that can destroy if left unchecked or unaddressed.

The primary goal of the ALCRN is to create a comprehensive network that can offer early warning systems for potential cyber threats. Through this network, experts across all sectors of IT security can come together to share information, ideas, strategies, techniques and more to combat any potential attacks.

The ALCRN also supports Australian and Lithuanian cyber activities by providing early warning systems and sharing knowledge, skills, expertise, experiences, plans, policies and procedures. This exchange of information allows both countries to be better prepared for a hybrid attack.

The Australian Lithuanian Hybrid Threat Centre (ALHTC) will undertake joint research looking at hybrid threat impacts upon Australia and Lithuania. As a part of this effort, the ALHTC will use cutting-edge technology to analyse threats, vulnerabilities, and risk factors across both countries.

“Australia is facing new security threats and needs a new way to understand and mitigate these threats; the Australian Lithuanian Hybrid Centre represents a new way of thinking about threats,” says Professor Matt Warren, Director of RMIT’s Centre for Cybersecurity Research and Innovation.

This research will be used to develop strategies and solutions for both countries to protect individuals and organisations from potential attacks. By bringing together different perspectives on the same problem, the ALHTC hopes to gain insights into how hybrid threats can manifest in different contexts and how best to counteract them.
